AHC Receives Statewide Home Health Awards

  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  05.12.08

(High Point, NC, May 12, 2008)  The Association for Home & Hospice Care of North Carolina (AHHC) announced at its 36th Annual Convention and Exposition on April 28th that two Advanced Home Care employees, Debbie Houston and Joel Mills, are the 2008 recipients of the Professional of the Year and Leadership Awards, respectively.

The Professional of the Year Award is given in recognition of unmatched commitment to the home care industry through community involvement, active participation in both AHHC and agency committees, and professional growth. Debbie Houston, Clinical Program Coordinator with Advanced Home Care, was selected as the recipient of this award for her outstanding contributions to home care and her dedication to improving both patient outcomes and her own clinical knowledge.

After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BS in Pharmacy, Debbie began her career as a staff pharmacist for Moses Cone Health System. She has held many different positions over the years, from Infection Control Coordinator to Director of Pharmacy. After a 27-year career in acute care as a pharmacist, Debbie delighted in making the transition to home care, and has been with Advanced Home Care for three years now. In December of 2007, Debbie received certification as a Nutrition Support Pharmacist from the Board of Pharmacy and is currently working on her doctoral degree in Pharmacy. She expects to complete the program this year.

Janice Wilhelm, Vice President of Specialty Clinical Services for Advanced Home Care, had the following to say about Ms. Houston, "Debbie is our resident clinical expert, positively impacting both our patient outcomes and our entire pharmacy staff across the organization. Her commitment to Advanced Home Care and the industry has made a significant difference in the lives of thousands of patients."

Also receiving an award from AHHC was Joel Mills, Advanced Home Care's Chief Executive Officer. Mills received the 2008 Leadership Award for his unparalleled leadership skills and his ongoing contributions to the home care and hospice industry over the past 22 years. He began his career after graduating from the University of Virginia. Dedicated to professional growth, Joel then went on to receive his MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He has since played an instrumental role in leading Advanced Home Care to strive for excellence and positive patient outcomes through 12 major mergers and acquisitions.

Another factor that secured Joel's standing as AHHC's Leader of the Year is his personal leadership style, which fosters an open door policy and makes him approachable by his employees. All of these qualities as a leader have resulted in Advanced Home Care's success in the industry. Seven of their eight home health branches have been recognized as part of the HomeCare Elite, the agency was named the Second Best Place to Work in the Triad by The Business Journal, and ranked as a finalist in the Charlotte market in 2007. Advanced Home Care has also received several awards for their many charitable giving campaigns under Joel's leadership, and the agency won the national 2004-2005 HME Excellence Award for "Best HME Provider" of the year.
