Senator Foriest Visits AHC Burlington Office
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 04.15.08
(Burlington, NC, April 15, 2008) Senator Tony Foriest, NC District 24, spent time with the clinical staff of Advanced Home Care's Burlington branch on March 31, 2008, in an effort to further his understanding of the home care industry. Advanced Home Care employees welcomed Senator Foriest to their office for a light breakfast and a "meet and greet," after which the senator joined Linda Click, RN for a real life home care visit to one of the agency's Alamance County patients.
The visit proved to be an enjoyable and informative one for both Senator Foriest and the staff of Advanced Home Care. Hoping to start a dialogue between constituent agencies and local politicians, the senator expressed a genuine interest in learning more about home care and shared his concern regarding health care in North Carolina: "We have an obligation to the people of this state who are in need of health care, and we need to get up to speed in order to make a substantial difference in their lives."
The senator and staff members discussed some of the challenges the state is facing, particularly in regards to continuing changes in funding and reimbursement for home care. Maria Thurlow, Chief Clinical Officer of Advanced Home Care, suggests that home care is one of the best solutions to increasing financial challenges within the health care industry by stating, "Home care continues to be the most affordable and most effective option to address the increasing chronic and post acute care needs of a growing population."
Before leaving the office to join Mrs. Click on her patient visit, Senator Foriest explained that he likes the concept of home care because he sees it as a way to deliver care to patients in the comfort of their own home. He stressed to Advanced Home Care employees the need to continue educating North Carolina residents and elected officials by stating, "These are challenges we need to be aware of in order to fix them. It's all about sewing the seed. After all, there's nothing like being home."
