I, as well as my son’s private-duty nurse, have found Ms. Henderson to be very professional, courteous, and willing to go “above and beyond” to ensure that his monthly respiratory supply orders are not only received in a timely manner, but that they are correct. On numerous occasions, she has contacted me or my son’s nurse to gather more detailed descriptions of supplies needed and/or to determine why a certain supply may have been shipped in error.

How it works
Using a multidisciplinary approach that integrates home health services, medical equipment, expert personnel, advanced processes and comprehensive patient education, VertiGo ensures our patients achieve the best outcomes possible. Through a focus on falls prevention, we help our patients manage their condition so they can live healthy, independent and balanced lives in the comfort of their own home.
Advanced Home Care has a specialty team of Physical Therapists (PTs) focused primarily on patients with vestibular conditions. These PTs are trained to assess 3 specific conditions:
- Central (using vestibular oculomotor reflex tests)
- Peripheral (using Dix Halpike and Roll tests)
- Balance (tests using a balance mat)
The PT’s first step is to determine the core cause of a patient’s vestibular balance disorder, and then develop a customized plan of treatment unique to that patient. After identifying the source of the balance disorder, our PTs instruct the patient on specific techniques that are designed to improve the condition – often completely eliminating the patient’s dizziness and improving their balance.
Our experienced clincians also evaluate each patient’s needs for assistive devices or adaptive equipment - such as walkers, canes, wheelchairs or bedside commodes – during rehab. As part of the recovery process, Occupational Therapy (OT) services and instruction on activities of daily living (ADLs) may also be arranged for patients. Our OTs are trained to assess functional reach and utilize this training for functional mobility.
REAL RESULTS: “Before, I was afraid to go to the kitchen to cook because I got dizzy when looking down at the countertop or down in my cabinets. I was even afraid to leave my apartment. but now, I can cook or go down the halls and my eyes don’t bother me one bit, and I am not afraid to fall.”
~ Joyce Gooch
If it is determined that a patient is at risk for falls due to medication interactions, our nurses will educate the patient in medication management to rule out drug interactions as a contributing factor. Nursing also completes a fall safety checklist to gauge safety in the home, evaluate proper footwear and assess the patient’s vision.
Advanced Home Care’s OTs and PTs also provide therapy and teach compensatory techniques to patients in the comfort and convenience of their own home. They coach patients and their caregivers on becoming self-sufficient in managing their vestibular disorder to enhance independence and to provide these individuals with the chance to get back to living their lives.
